Stef Fusani

Design studio
Stef Fusani is an Italian experimental artist and designer based in Madrid since 2008. His work investigates the relationship of the individual in constant negotiation with reality, attempting to metabolize its stimuli through materiality and the body. His practice explores the origin of production processes in relation to 21st-century human habits.

Stef Fusani’s work revolves around the materiality of everyday experience and the configuration of ways of inhabiting context through contemporary material culture. His trajectory and practice reflect an interest in the possibilities and behaviors of materials, through which he seeks both formal experimentation and the investigation of their ecological and social histories, as well as their conceptual potential. He is currently developing research on the application of biomaterials in sculpture, as well as on the role of copying, mimesis, and standardization in contemporary sculptural processes.

He has exhibited in museums such as MAMbo in Bologna and MAAT in Lisbon, and his work is part of the permanent collection of MAXXI in Rome. His work has also been presented in galleries and exhibition spaces in Madrid, Milan, London, New York, Miami, and Berlin. He is the founder of the experimental design studio STANDARD404, has worked as an independent curator, co-founded the Madrid-based collective Molto Molto Fuori (a curatorial platform active until 2019), and is co-founder of Cinema Parentesi, a collective dedicated to the curation, dissemination, and scenography of installations related to video essays produced by artists, designers, and architects. Trained in the field of design, he completed a Master’s degree in Geo-Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven (Netherlands) and is currently pursuing a PhD in Fine Arts in the field of sculpture at the Complutense University of Madrid.
